The Role of Transit, Shared Modes, and Public Policy in the New Mobility Landscape

This report, developed by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, focuses on how shared mobility modes can work with transit to benefit mobility, equity, and sustainability in urban areas.  The report was released in 2021, but most of the content was developed in 2019 and may not reflect the long-term effects of COVID-19 on transit and mobility.  The report’s recommendations include “providing travelers with real- or near real-time information on combinations of available price and service offerings, smartphone applications that simplify the process of arranging and paying for the use of multiple transportation modes for a single trip, and more public sector coordination of services across modes and jurisdictions.”
