TRB Forum on Preparing for Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility Services

From 2018-2023, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Forum on Preparing for Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility brought together “public, private, and research organizational partners to share perspectives on critical issues surrounding the deployment of automated vehicles and shared mobility.” The Forum worked with the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) to develop a series of papers covering the following topics:

  1. Impacts and Opportunities around Land Use and Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility
  2. Implications for Planning and Modeling
  3. Impacts of Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility on Transit and Partnership Opportunities
  4. Potential for Impacts of Highly Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility on Movement of Goods and People
  5. Prioritizing Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion around the Deployment of Automated Vehicles
  6. Maximizing Positive Social Impacts of Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility
  7. Infrastructure Enablers for Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility
  8. Safety Scenarios and Engagement during Transition to Highly Automated Vehicles
  9. Models for Data Sharing and Governance for Automated Vehicles and Shared Mobility

The Forum also identified research needs, including models for data sharing, safety scenarios for the transition to automated vehicles, state and local policy, street and infrastructure design, potential social impacts, inclusion and equity, impacts on travel behavior and transit, and implications for transportation planning and land use.
